Steal

  1. Verb

    To make a bet or raise with the intent of convincing all of one's opponents to fold, especially when done from late position when the only money or chips in the pot are the antes or blinds.

    EXAMPLE: "I was on the button and tried to steal the blinds, but the big blind raised me. Even though I didn't have much of a hand, I decided to call and see a flop so I wouldn't build a table image as someone who tries to steal a lot."

    A bluff, especially from late position when the only money or chips in the pot are the antes or blinds.

    EXAMPLE: "My opponent had been making steals all session, so even though I didn't have much of a hand I decided to reraise to protect my blinds."
