Split

  1. Verb

    To distribute portions of the pot to multiple winners.

    EXAMPLE: "We tied on the showdown, so we split the pot."

    APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues

  2. Verb

    To divide the pot into specified amounts that will be distributed to the players who have maintained a stake in the pot, done as an alternative to a showdown upon the agreement of all players.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This agreement is typically only permitted in private or informal games.

    EXAMPLE: "There were only two of us left in the pot and neither of us wanted to see the showdown, so we split it."

  3. Noun

    A showdown involving multiple hands of equal rank; a tie.

    EXAMPLE: "I thought I would win the hand with my Queen high straight, but it was a split."

  4. Noun

    The hand 10-7, regardless of suit.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The name originates from the bowling situation 7-10 split. This is a particularly difficult split in bowling because the 7 pin and 10 pin are the farthest apart from one another.

    EXAMPLE: "I had a split in the pocket, and decided to fold when one of my opponents raised before the flop."
