Short Pair

  1. Noun

    A pair whose value is lower than the minimum required to place the first wager; a pair below the value required to open.

    EXAMPLE: "We were playing Texas Hold'em with Jacks to open. I had a pair of nines in the pocket, and had to wait for another player to open since it was a short pair."
