Side Card

  1. Noun

Kicker; the highest value card or cards not involved in completing a particular hand rank.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The side cards are used to determine the winner of otherwise tied hands.

EXAMPLE: "In hold'em, I almost never play A-6 offsuit. Chances are I won't pair the Ace. Even if an Ace does show up on the board, there is too much of a chance that an opponent also has a pair of Aces but has better side cards."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues
