Chips or cash that a player is required to contribute to the pot but that do not count toward that player's contribution.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: When a player has missed both the big blind and small blind, the player is typically required to contribute both blinds when they join the game again. When this occurs, the big blind typically counts toward the player's contribution to the pot, but the additional small blind contribution does not count toward the total. Example: If a player posts dead with a big blind of $6 and a small blind of $3, the $3 small blind would be dead money. If it were not dead money, the player would only have to put an additional $7 in the pot if an opponent raised $10.

EXAMPLE: "I decided to wait for the big blind again rather than be dealt in immediately. If I were dealt in immediately, I would've been required to post some dead money."
