Dead Button

  1. Noun

A situation in a game with a rotating blind in which the player to the left of the dealer is eliminated or otherwise leaves the table and the dealer button is rotated to the empty seat rather than skipping to the next player still at the table. In such a situation, the small blind is not posted.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A dead button may be used in order to ensure that no player gains the advantage of not having to pay the full amount of the blind or blinds each time it rotates around the table. Other methods of ensuring the blind is paid may be used in the place of a dead button.

EXAMPLE: "The small blind went all-in last hand hand and lost. Instead of the button going directly to the big blind, we used a dead button."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues

    GAME CATEGORY: Shared Card Games
