Blur Intensity

  1. Noun

The extent to which the color of a momentarily flashed card is influenced by the color of the pips or the color of the background.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: High blur intensity means more pips and indicates a higher card value, while low blur intensity indicates that the background is more dominant and indicates a lower card value. While it is difficult to distinguish between similar cards through blur intensity, it is possible to judge the general range that a card might be. For instance, while one might not distinguish between a 9 or an 8, one could reasonably use blur intensity to determine that a flashed 2 was some low card and that a flashed 9 was some high number card.

EXAMPLE: "I used to watch bad dealers to spot the occassional flashed card, but since I would typically only get a sense of the color and blur intensity rather than the actual card, the information I gained was just not worth the energy it took to watch for that info."

    APPLIES TO: Land-based Venues

    RELATED TERMS: Leak, Protect
