Time Pot

  1. Noun

In a casino or cardroom that requires a time collection, a pot designated such that the winner of the pot agrees to pay for the time collection of all players at the table; an [item] pot used to pay the time collection.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The house is prohibited from taking a rake in some jurisdictions. In these locations, players who prefer to have the winner fund everyone's play may agree to use a time pot, which operates like a rake in many ways but does not increase the fees paid to the house when there is more aggressive betting.

EXAMPLE: "We were potting out for the time collection. The time pot was the first pot that was at least twice the amount to be paid. Fortunately, one of the big pots I won was just under that amount, so I didn't have to pay everyone's fees."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues

RELATED TERMS: Pot, Pot - [Item] Pot, Pot Out, Rake, Time Collection
