To offer a proposition bet in which players accepting the offer would win less than they wagered; to as opposed to lay the odds.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Uncommon usage. Example: Offering to pay 1:4 if a player misses an open-ended straight draw on the river would be taking the odds because the payout of $1 is less than the initial stake of $4.
EXAMPLE: "I took the odds on a small proposition bet. The odds were pretty fair, but my opponent declined anyway."
