Table Stakes

  1. Noun

A system of limiting wagers such that no player may wager more chips than that player has at the table, purchase chips in the middle of a hand, or remove chips from the table in the middle of a hand. In cases where one player wagers more than the entire bankroll of a second player, the second player may go all-in rather than being forced to fold due to an inability to match the full amount.

EXAMPLE: "I've been playing in both brick and mortar cardrooms and online cardrooms for years and haven't come across any without table stakes."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues

  2. Noun

Stakes; the limits and buy-in set for a particular table.

EXAMPLE: "In some poker rooms the percentage of each pot taken as rake varies based on certain criteria. The table stakes and the number of players are some factors in determining the rake."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues
