Foul

  1. Verb

    To violate an agreed-upon rule such that a given player's hand is disqualified.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Hands may be disqualified for a number of reasons, such as being dealt an incorrect number of cards, touching the discard pile, touching another active player's cards, or being removed from sight.

    EXAMPLE: "I fouled my hand when I accidentally dealt myself an extra card."

  2. Adjective

    That has been or should be disqualified; that violates agreed-upon rules.

    EXAMPLE: "Since removing cards from sight can help cheaters, the dealer declared my hand a foul hand when I accidentally dropped my cards on the floor."

    USAGE: Describes a hand.

    SYNONYMS: Dead

  3. Noun

    An error that causes a hand to be disqualified from a particular pot.

    EXAMPLE: "I made a foul when I accidentally knocked my cards against the muck."
