Free Cards

  1. Noun

Cards that a player or players were not required to contribute additional money to the pot in order to see; cards revealed after a round in which no betting occurred, or, for the player in the big blind position during a blind game, the cards revealed after a round in which there was no raise.

EXAMPLE: "I had 8d-9d in the pocket and the flop came up 10h-Ac-4d. I wouldn't usually call with only three cards to a flush and three cards to a straight, but nobody raised so the turn was a free card. The turn was the 7d, so I called a raise knowing that together the flush draw and open-ended straight draw had reasonable odds."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues
