Running Good

  1. Verb

To be dealt a series of strong hands; to undergo a winning streak primarily due to the cards that were dealt rather than the quality of play; to be on a run.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Random chance does not necessarily mean that each good hand will be followed by a bad hand. The quality of hands a player is dealt will average out statistically over the long run, but in the shorter term players should expect to have streaks when they are running good or running bad.

EXAMPLE: "When I first started playing poker, I got really excited whenever I was running good. I thought I was winning because I had really learned the game quickly and was outplaying my opponents. I learned my lesson when I switched to a higher stakes room and quickly lost all the winnings from my streak."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues
