Raise

  1. Verb

To increase the size of a previous bet, the act includes a call of the previous bet such that it would be redundant to call and raise separately. Certain conditions are typically required to raise, such as increasing the bet to at least double the original amount.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Often used improperly to describe making an opening bet.

EXAMPLE: "I had pocket cowboys so I raised before the flop."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues

  2. Noun

An increase in the size of a previous bet.

EXAMPLE: "There have been five raises and three reraises this hand. Either you've all got monster hands or you're all maniacs."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues
