Proposition

  1. Verb

To offer to take a specified action on the condition that an opponent will take another specified action in return.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Example: A player may proposition an opponent in a draw game by offering to call the opponent's raise under the condition that the opponent draws at least two cards. While possible in any kind of game, propositions are most common in draw games because proposing the number of cards a player will draw gives propositions a flexibility that they do not have in other games.

EXAMPLE: "I always decline when an opponent propositions me. I think it takes away a lot of the fun of the game."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues

  2. Noun

An agreement reached by two or more players concerning the actions that each will take on their turns.

EXAMPLE: "I made a proposition with my opponent that I would call the raise and draw two cards if my opponent drew at least one card."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues

  3. Noun

Proposition bet; side bet; a wager made outside the normal rules of the game.

EXAMPLE: "The house offered a 150:1 proposition against making a pair of aces in the pocket. The odds are not worth the payout, but some people make the bet anyway."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues
