Noun
An player who is employed by the casino or cardroom; a proposition player, stake player, or shill.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Cardrooms sometimes employ house players in order to ensure that there are enough players to start and maintain games or to gain an additional source of revenue from the player's winnings. Many gaming jurisdictions have rules governing whether or not house players are permitted, whether or not they are required to identify themselves, and the purposes for which they may be used. Player attitudes toward house players vary based on the type of house player in use. The use of easily identifiable proposition players is generally accepted on the one hand, while on the other hand the use of shills is generates distrust.
EXAMPLE: "I frequent one nearby cardroom often, and I have learned which players are house players. I try to avoid games that they are involved in."
