Cards that would complete a hand or improve it sufficiently to win the pot, especially when the hand is an underdog.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Example: Player A has Ks-7s, Player B has 10h-10d. The flop is 10c-3s-Qs and the turn is the Kc. Player A is the underdog but could win the hand by completing the flush with a spade on the river. There is no other hand that Player A could draw to win the pot. Since there are 13 spades in the deck, two of them are in Player A's hand and two are on the board, there are 9 spades left to complete the flush. However, the 10 of spades is not an out because it would give Player B four of a kind, beating Player A's flush. Therefore, Player A has 8 outs. The number of outs divided by the number of cards remaining in the deck provides the probability of improving or completing the hand.
