Option

  1. Noun

The choice for the player in a live blind position to make a pre-flop raise when betting has been checked around.

EXAMPLE: "I was on the big blind and had A-K suited. I has hoping another player would make a raise so I wouldn't have to reveal the stength of my hand, but when it was checked around I decided to take advantage of my option. I raised."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues

  2. Noun

A twist; an extra card dealt to a specific player in a stud or draw game, especially in exchange for an additional contribution to the pot.

EXAMPLE: "My playing strategy changes slightly when I am playing in a game with an option. I tend to call a lot more when I am drawing to a straight or a flush, since I know if I don't complete it I can always pay for the option and have another chance."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues
