Kansas City Lowball

  1. Noun

Any variation of poker in which players attempt to make the weakest poker hand possible rather than the strongest, in which Aces are considered high cards, and in which straights and flushes are considered high hands; lowball in which the best possible hand is 2-3-4-5-7 without a flush.

EXAMPLE: "We were playing lowball in a friend's home game and I made a wheel. Unfortunately I hadn't asked before we started if we were playing Kansas City Lowball or Ace-to-Five Lowball, so I wasn't sure if I had the nuts or absolutely nothing. I didn?t want to ask which game we were playing because I thought that would give away the hand I had, so I played as if it were Ace-to-Five except a little less aggressively. Fortunately for me, we were playing Ace-to-Five and I scooped."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues

    SYNONYMS: Deuce-to-Seven Lowball

RELATED TERMS: Ace-to-Five Lowball, Ace-to-Six Lowball, California Lowball, Kansas City, London Lowball, Lowball
