Kicker

  1. Noun

    The highest value card or cards not involved in completing a particular hand rank. Used to determine the winner of otherwise tied hands.

    EXAMPLE: "I had two pair but lost on the kicker."

  2. Noun

    Improper usage. The highest card in a flush or a straight.

    EXAMPLE: Improper: "I had a flush with a King kicker." Proper: "I had a King-high flush."

  3. Noun

    In draw games, a card that is not part of a pair that is retained in one's hand. Typically held either in hopes of drawing a pair or to represent a hand better than what one actually has.

    EXAMPLE: "I had Jc-Js-Kh-7s-3c, so I kept the fishhooks and King but didn't make the two pair. I shouldn't have kept the kicker."
