Mechanic's Grip
Noun
Any manner of holding the deck the makes it easier to cheat through sleight of hand.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Often used more narrowly to refer to a particular manner of holding the deck that includes fingers on three sides of the deck rather than two sides, thus hiding a greater portion of the cards from sight and making it more difficult to see any manipulation.
EXAMPLE: "The assumption that someone is cheating can't safely be made simply because that person uses a mechanic's grip. I learned to deal using a mechanic's grip, but I've never cheated. I just find it to be a more comfortable way of holding the cards."
