Mechanic
Noun
A cheater who gains advantage by arranging the cards through sleight of hand.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Techniques such as dealing from the bottom of the deck, holding cards up one's sleeve, or arranging the cards as one pretends to shuffle are all used by mechanics. Not all forms of cheaters are considered mechanics. For instance, because they provide information advantages rather than advantages in actual card strength, neither positioning a mirror to see the cards as someone else is dealing nor colluding with another player at the table to share information are techniques of a mechanic.
EXAMPLE: "Even though I had an image in my head of cardrooms being filled with vagrants and cheaters, I've never come across a mechanic in a reputable cardroom."
APPLIES TO: Land-based Venues
