Early Position

  1. Noun

    The locations in the turn order that are near the beginning, especially the under the gun position, the big blind, and the small blind; any of the positions that is among the first one-third of the table to take action.

    EXAMPLE: "The tournament director assigned seats randomly to start, and I was unlucky enough to start in early position. I wasn't able to calculate expected value as well because I had to guess what my opponents would call and which would fold."
