Gutshot Straight Draw

  1. Noun

Inside straight draw; four cards to a straight, where the missing card would be in the middle of the straight; a hand in which four out of five cards of consecutive rank are held and in which the missing fifth card has a rank that is between the highest and lowest ranked cards that are already in hand; belly buster; as opposed to an open-ended straight draw or a one-ended straight draw.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Example: The hand 7-9-10-J is a gutshot straight draw because the missing card - an 8 - is between the lowest and highest portion of the straight. The hand 2-3-4-5 would not be a gutshot straight draw because neither of the cards that would complete it - an A or a 6 - are in the middle of cards already held. The term is often shortened to simply gutshot straight or just gutshot.

    SAMPLE HAND:

EXAMPLE: "I had bad pot odds, but I decided to gamble on a gutshot. I ended up missing the draw."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues
