Cap

  1. Noun

    A limit on the number of bets allowed during each round of betting.

    EXAMPLE: "The cap was four raises."

  2. Verb

    When there is a limit to the number of raises that may be made in a given round of betting, to make the final raise allowed.

    EXAMPLE: "I opened the betting for $5. The player three seats to my left raised and the next player reraised. I called cold, and the player three seats to my left capped the betting with another raise."

  3. Verb

    When there are cards remaining to be dealt, to put an object on top of the remaining cards in the deck in order to prevent tampering by cheaters.

    EXAMPLE: "The dealer capped the deck."

    To place a chip or other object on top of one's hand to indicate that one remains active.

    EXAMPLE: "I always make sure to cap my hand when I have it resting on the table."
